Maua hospital static clinic provides maternal, child health and family planning on daily basis and monthly sessions at primary health care units in the community. At the child welfare clinic provides care to children less than 5 years. These children receive preventive immunizations for childhood infections and the sick babies receive curative care services. Growth monitoring is undertaken for all the children brought to the clinic. During the clinic mothers get micro-teaching on specific health promotion messages and particularly prevention of malaria and diarrhoeal diseases in children.
The department ensures pregnant mothers are prevented from malaria because it does not only save the life of the unborn child, but will prevent the mother from becoming severely ill and unable to provide for herself and her family. This also allows the mother to save additional treatment cost for curing malaria. Mosquito bed nets are distributed to the pregnant women and the children under-five years.
